NOTES FROM THE LAB / ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

A result is useful
when its limits are clear.

Pattern Lab shows what happened on this set of questions. It does not turn that performance into a standardized IQ score.

What you get

The full challenge contains 12 original exercises: four visual-pattern questions, four number-reasoning questions, and four logic questions. Each correct answer earns one point. The result reports your correct-answer count, active time, the count within each question type, and explanations. The daily challenge rotates five questions from the same bank using the UTC date.

What you do not get

We have not established representative population norms, reliability estimates, or validation evidence supporting a numerical IQ conversion. We therefore do not report an IQ, population percentile, diagnosis, or qualification for a society, school, or employer. Four questions in a category are too few to justify a broad conclusion about a person's abilities.

Why not just convert the percentage?

Answering 75% correctly is a statement about these questions. Being ahead of 75% of a population is a different statement requiring suitable comparison data. Multiplying a correct-answer percentage by a number or fitting a score to a bell curve does not create the missing evidence.

Practice changes the task

Once you have seen an explanation, you may remember the answer. Repeating the same challenge can be enjoyable and useful for learning the method, but an improved score cannot separate memory, familiarity, attention, and broader ability changes.

When you need a professional assessment

For educational accommodations, clinical questions, or other consequential decisions, seek an appropriately qualified professional and an assessment validated for that purpose. Online delivery alone does not determine whether a test is valid; evidence and the intended use matter. The International Test Commission's guidelines explain the role of reliability and validity evidence. Mensa also distinguishes its free IQ Challenge from an admission qualification.

Our promise is simple: clear practice questions, free explanations, and honest reporting of this attempt.
